Established in 2018, REED Engineering Consultants is led by Christopher Reed, a professional engineer with practical and educational experience in chemical engineering, fire protection engineering, the investigation of fires and explosions, process engineering, failure analysis, and code consulting.
After graduating in 1994 with a BSc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta, he provided process engineering services, health and safety inspections, and failure investigations in the oil & gas and pulp & paper sectors. Joining a local fire department in 1996, Mr. Reed was certified as a level II fire fighter and medical first responder in British Columbia and became inherently interested in the study of fires and explosions.
In 2001, Mr. Reed became a principal of Senez Reed Calder / Sereca Fire Consulting and he received his MSc. Eng. in Fire Science and Engineering in 2012 from Worcester Polytech Institute. With practical experience and a strong educational background, Mr. Reed helped establish Sereca as a leading national and international firm providing expertise in fire and explosion forensics, and fire protection engineering. Sereca was sold to Jensen Hughes in 2015, opening up the opportunity for REED Engineering Consultants in 2018.
Today, Mr. Reed is a recognized expert in the investigation of fires and explosions, failure analysis, chemical and mechanical process engineering upsets, and applicable codes and standards. Working for plaintiffs and defense, Mr. Reed has provided litigation support and courtroom testimony in civil and criminal court, remains active in fire science training and research, coordinates with engineering professionals to meet client’s needs, and continues to consult to insurance companies, legal firms, property owners, and public departments in matters related to fire, forensics and failure analysis.
